Launched at Durham Cathedral on 05 July 2013 In St Cuthbert’s Time – The Sounds of Lindisfarne and the Gospels by renowned sound artist and IAS Fellow Chris Watson celebrates the exhibition of the Lindisfarne Gospels in Durham. The installation transports listeners to the 7th Century on Holy Island, when Eadfrith, the Bishop of Lindisfarne, was writing and illustrating the Lindisfarne Gospels. During this time Eadfrith would have been immersed in the seasonal sounds. Chris Watson has created a sound installation that reflects the acoustic landscape during this time. With the help of Durham experts such as archaeologist Dr David Petts and Dr Fiona Gameson, a specialist in Anglo Saxon history, Chris discovered life in the 7th and 8th Century.

The Installation runs from 06 July 2013 to 30 September 2013, between 10am and 4pm in Durham Cathedral’s Holy Cross Chapel, an inspiring location for quiet reflection and meditation. Every day except Sundays.
